Join abstract painters Yevgeniya Baras and Matt Phillips for a gallery discussion on select works in the exhibition Florine Stettheimer: Painting Poetry, a survey of the work of the modernist painter, designer, and poet featuring over 50 paintings and drawings.
Please note these programs take place in the exhibition galleries; a limited number of stools are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
About the Artists
Yevgeniya Baras is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. She holds a BA and MS from the University of Pennsylvania (2003) and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2007). She has participated in several residency programs including Yaddo, the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program and the MacDowell Colony Residency. In 2015 she received the Artadia Prize and in 2014 was named the recipient of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation’s Emerging Artist Prize. Baras is a co-founder of Regina Rex Gallery, and she has organized over twenty exhibitions at Regina Rex and other galleries in NY, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Baras is represented by Nicelle Beauchene Gallery and her work has been reviewed in The New York Times and Art in America.
Matt Phillips is a Brooklyn-based painter. Recent solo exhibitions include Comfort Inn at Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects, Yard Sale at Devening Projects and Editions, Chicago, and at Studio d’Arte Raffaelli, Trento, Italy. The NYC Department of Education and the Public Art for Public Schools Program recently commissioned Phillips to install a large-scale mosaic at PS106. He is a MacDowell Colony Fellow and will be an artist in residence at Yaddo this June. Phillips is also a co-founder of TSA New York – a cooperative gallery, performance, and exhibition space. He is a Professor of Art at FIT in New York City.
