$object_summary = 'Many examples of Greek, Cypriot, and Roman terra cotta heads - meant as votive offerings at pagan temples have been excavated in Israel, most of them found in pits outside sanctuaries where old ritual objects are buried.
This head, although probably from the Roman Period, includes features common to earlier Hellenistic types. The ivy wreath suggests the Greek god Dionysus, while the hair and eyes are perhaps more characteristic of Roman work.
Currently on view in the Permanent Exhibition.
