1999-73 ' ; $object_summary = 'The Jews of Rome buried their dead in underground catacombs, in contrast to the Roman custom of cremation and above-ground tombs. This burial inscription would have been set in the wall of a catacomb. This piece is related to ancient Roman gold-glass. Jewish elements include a shofar on the right and a menorah at the bottom. Greek inscription: Here lies Anastasia, mother, and Esther, daughter, in peace may their sleep be, Amen. Hebrew inscription: Shalom (peace). '; ?>
