P.1.1993 ' ; $object_summary = 'This mortar was designed for use with a pestle in grinding herbs. It is decorated with an aftercast taken from a Roman imperial coin, which may suggest the refined taste of its patron. The Roman numerals MDCV (1605) mark it as the last surviving work from Joseph de Levis\' foundry, which is more widely known as a producer of bells.
