Sixty years after the Roman destruction of the second Temple in Jerusalem, Hadrian established the city as a Roman colony. When the Jews learned of his plan to build a pagan temple on the site of the destroyed Temple, they revolted under leadership of Shimon Bar Kochba. The Jews minted a series of Bar Kochba coins, most of which include representations of the Temple, as well as ceremonial objects used in its rituals. Obverse: façade of the Temple in Jerusalem. Hebrew inscription: Shimon. Reverse: the \'Four Species of Tabernacles\'. Hebrew inscription: Y[ear] 2 of the Free[dom] of Israel.
