Architectural elements were often used to frame the text of a marriage contract. On this example, the columns are whimsically depicted with capitals in the shape of hamsa, the hand-shaped amulet that expresses a wish for the protection of the bride and groom: Abraham son of Samuel Matitye and Hadra, daughter of Simhah.
